Description

Exploring the concept of symmetry and asymmetry through a variety of subject matter – WAR and limiting myself to only 2 colours, mainly grayscale prints and the colour of the paper to represent that of WW2 newsprint.

Comparison between consumerism & war society with the thought of what happen to society in time of war and what does the government try to do to the citizens. I imagined myself in WW2 & having my love ones at war, what would I be feeling? What will I want the most? – HOPE.

In reference to one of the famous war time singer Vera Lynn's song, A Nightingale Sang at Berkeley Square, which gave British housewives a sweet feeling of the times before war, I adapted my newsprint name after that.

Berkeley Times is targeted for British housewives during 1943 and it consist of contents such as successful battles, household advertisements, etc... adapting designs from WW2 newsprints such as advertisement at the masthead, bold fonts, informal speech-like tones and less white space.
